What changed in 2024-2026
The salary threshold for Skilled Worker visas increased significantly in April 2024: minimum £38,700/year (up from £26,200). Care workers are now excluded from bringing dependants. These changes remain in effect in 2026.
Requirements
- Job offer from a UK-licensed sponsor
- Salary meeting the higher of: £38,700 or the "going rate" for your occupation code
- English language proof (B1 level minimum)
- Certificate of Sponsorship from employer
- Valid passport
- Tuberculosis test (if applicable to your country)
Costs (2026)
- Visa application fee: £827 (up to 3 years) or £1,636 (3+ years)
- Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,035/year
- Total for 5-year visa: approx. £6,000 per person
The process
1. Get job offer + Certificate of Sponsorship 2. Apply online at gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa 3. Attend biometric appointment 4. Decision: usually 3-8 weeks
